Wonderful Wednesday

This is a Wonderful Day!

I admit to some anxiety today with me on The Oprah Show sharing about the most painful struggle of my life...losing 160 pounds physically and emotionally.  So of course what does this confident 47 year old woman do?  She calls her mother.  My mother has a way of making everything seem alright; and she didn't disappoint today.

It seems today is a big day for our family all around.  My mom told me that my 8 year old nephew Tyson has a project due in school and he has to make an oral presentation to the class about it today. The assignment was to pick a famous person who inspires you.  My family takes education seriously, so of course my father, "Pop Pop", my mother "Nana" and of course my sister, brother-in-law and older nephew Terrell all weighed in on who should be Tyson's choice. According to my mother, she suggested Rosa Parks.  I'm not sure who the rest of the family suggested; but Tyson had his own ideas.  Mom said Tyson's response was clear.  "Nana, " he said, "the assignment is to highlight my favorite famous person...and that is my Auntie Star."

Yep...I cried this morning.  I am thrilled and honored to tell my story on Oprah this afternoon, but I realized at that moment listening to my mother that I didn't need to seek approval or respect or understanding from anyone.  I already have it from the people who love me the most.

So this is a wonderful day for me.  Not because I'm going to share a couch with my favorite famous person; but because a child that I love with all my heart says that I'm his.  It doesn't get any better than that!

  6. I'm watching Oprah now and I'm in tears. It is an accomplishment to admit ones own fears, but to do so AND share them with the world is absolutely amazing! I'm so happy for you.

  7. "but I realized at that moment listening to my mother that I didn't need to seek approval or respect or understanding from anyone. " - this really helps my confidence shattering week. Like for all of my life I have ALWAYS sought approval from everyone around me. It's crazy to know that it can be the driving force to how we live our lives. Definitely not a pleasant way to live. I'm learning, and I know it was meant that I watched Oprah's show today.

    Thanks for being YOU!

  8. Great interview! It takes a lot of courage to do what you did today. I don't feel like you owed anyone an story. I think people should worry about what they see in themselves and not take time to put others down. Good job today and you look great now as you did before. May God bless you to remain healthy!!!

  9. Star! Ms.Star! Good Job!! I applaud you! Keep up the Good Work and You look so Perr-ti too!ha!ha! For you to come on International Television and share such a Private and Intimate Personal Struggle was absolutely incredible! Just because you are Famous, Gorgeous, Educated, Successful, exude Confidence and Self-assurance. Does that mean, You cannot have the Freedom to be HUMAN and To struggle in certain areas of your life? You, as you well know but, the public seems to be unaware or not care, have a right to privacy just like they do. Some media lack Integrity and I know you have no safety zone or private time. Personally, I attribute this with some of our economic meltdown. Being too focused on stuff that doesn't matter and in the process hurting people and wasting money and resources. That's for another day however, GOD is Good and I am sure you know that. I will be praying for you. Stand your ground! Be You! Stay True to yourself & the Lord and you will always be 5-star!GOD made you just the way that you are. He does not make Mistakes only Masterpieces! GOD Bless!

  10. I too watched you on Oprah and all I could think of was how cool, calm, and collected you were. You were definitely in the moment and owning your Truth! Even Oprah commented on how calm you were. It felt and sounded authentic and we women need that--that's why we LOVE Oprah--she's gone tell it like it is--the good, the bad, and the ugly---and we can relate to her struggles. By you opening up and choosing to go public, you allowed us to see into a little part of the REAL you and girlfriend, you truly are a beautiful person. Don't get me wrong--we always knew you were a DIVA--now we love you because we know you to be REAL! Go STAR!
